In addition to the nine categories, a Consumer's Choice Award will be awarded to the establishment to have received the most (pro-rata based on size of the establishment) nominations for this award.

Criteria

And we’d like to know whether you’re getting just that. To help us judge all the entrants, we need your nominations. It’s quick and easy to do and if you feel you’ve had an outstanding experience with any of
the following categories:

an accommodation establishment
a meetings, exhibitions events venue
an online tour operator / planner
a travel agency
a national or private park
a restaurant
a tour operator
a tourist attraction
or a tourist guide

Accommodation

There are 5 sub-categories for Accommodation Establishments in the Welcome Awards:

Bed and Breakfast / Guesthouse / Country house
Backpackers and hostelling / Caravan and camping sites
Lodges
Self-catering
Hotels

Entry criteria

In order to be eligible for the Accommodation Establishments Welcome Award, you must satisfy the following criteria:

Your establishment must be star graded.
You can nominate yourself or be nominated by your employer or an association.
You must complete all the questions in the entry form – and include examples of how you exceeded expectations in welcoming a guest and making them feel special and how you offer ever-improving service.
During an official visit you will be required to submit the following:
- visuals that serve as examples of how you have exceeded visitors' expectations; and
- any other documentation to illustrate how you add value to your visitors' experiences.
The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa will oversee and run this category of the Welcome Awards and you may contact the organisation for any assistance you need when entering.
